In an effort to get out and see things, we decided to drive to
Lake Amistad.
On the way, we stopped at the information center for none other than...info. Figured if the State of Texas put one there, it might be for good reason, right? It's a good thing we stopped; we learned that we weren't only by the lake, but there was something cooler to see...a huge dam right on the border.
Amistad Dam, to be precise. The gentlemen who was telling us about the lake area told us that we could go see the dam, which so happened to be right on the U.S.-Mexico border. He said that there was a nine-foot statue that we just "had to see." Copy, he peeked our interests, so off we drove...to the border. (no worries, it was completely safe and legal)
| The dam...we were driving on a long bridge headed towards it. |
| Official beginning of the border crossing. |
| We are almost to the middle of the crossing. A view of the Mexico side of the dam. |
| Rio Grande River |
| Dead center of the bridge, right on the border. Border Patrol told us that if we crossed the Mexican flag we would need passports. |
| On the border...one foot in Mexico, one in the U.S. |
| Obligatory tourist shots |
As you can see, it was a beautiful day to go see the sites. We were told there aren't many, so we are planning to spread them out as to not wear ourselves down too quickly. :)
