Maize-merized

Living on the "desert" side of Texas brings awareness to many things.

As much as you want to imagine 4 seasons, much like living in Alaska, there are only two - hot and hotter!

So when a cold front blew in last weekend, we were happy to bundle up and do something that had a semblance of fall to it.  We decided on making the drive (about an hour and a half) to the famous Hondo Maize.  Hondo is a small town about 20 miles West of San Antonio.  The only time we make it to Hondo is either driving to/from San Antonio, or flying into their airport for aviation fuel (this is where it's the cheapest).  We welcomed the chance to explore it a little more.

New to us was how much to bundle up Scrapling.  The hospital nurses had mentioned that baby's need one extra layer than what adults wear, so we just went with that.  Getting out the door is also tricky...we like to leave once it's actually nap time so she naturally goes to sleep when she's supposed to as opposed to just at our convenience.

We made it in enough time for Scrapling to wake up hungry, so after a 30 min teaser in the parking lot and a few odd glances from people passing by (feeding her in the car) we ventured out.

A "layered" Scrapling.  What you don't see is the spit up down Scrap/y's shoulder.  Nothing like wearing your kid's vomit in public! (photo by Yeti)

This place is known for their Corn Maize.  Well, thanks to a cranky Scrapling, the only one who really got to explore the maze was Yeti.  Scrap/y and the Scrapling trailed, but were too focused on delayering Scrapling who was too hot and making sure everyone knew she was unhappy.

Our two goals were to check out the maze and come home with a pumpkin large enough to sit her in for Halloween photos.

We clearly got bit HARD with the "first baby needs everything" bug.  After finding the pumpkin to meet our goal, we thought it best she have her own pumpkin too.  (As if she was going to actually do anything with it.)

Our pumpkins

We got some kind strangers to take a family shot because, of course, those are nice.

BTW, after her meltdown, Scrapling decided to sleep face-down in the Ergo Baby for the remainder of our venture at the maze.  Ah...this kid!

Our little day trip was "maize-merizing" - who would have thought that in the midst of a pretty bad drought this bright green piece of fall existed.  We are looking forward to next year when she will actually be able to enjoy the trip too.

We leave you with a peek at Scrapling's latest craze...chomping on her hand and seeing how much drool she can lather around her face!
